James Peters

James Peters

As Senior Director of Geisinger Ventures and Chief Executive Officer of one of its portfolio companies, Mr. Peters brings a combination of executive leadership, venture capital, entrepreneurship, and data analytics experience to his dual role at Geisinger Health System. He is responsible for driving the strategic direction of MedMining, Geisinger’s information services business, as well as providing venture direction for initiatives involving personalized medicine, clinical trials service expansion, and consumer-oriented models of care. He most recently served as Principal for Updata Venture Partners, a $250 million venture capital firm that invests in early- and expansion-stage software and healthcare IT companies, and was a member of Updata’s senior leadership team that successfully delivered performance that scored in the top decile among its peers. Mr. Peters’ investment focus included software, market research, analytics, business intelligence and healthcare informatics. Prior to Updata, Mr. Peters founded and grew a successful technology services firm that sold into the medical and consumer packaged goods industries. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Consultant at Andersen Consulting.

Mr. Peters is a member of the Leadership Advisory Board for CareWorks Convenient Healthcare, a Geisinger Ventures developed and operated business in which physician-supervised certified nurse practitioners provide convenient and affordable healthcare in retail settings. He is also a Member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), the Pharmaceutical Market Research Group (PMRG), the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Wharton Healthcare Management Alumni Association. In addition, he serves as Adjunct Lecturer in Lehigh University’s College of Business and Economics, has started a number of perennial fundraising initiatives, and is an active Parkinson’s disease advocate. Mr. Peters serves on the Pocono Advisory Board for Ben Franklin Technology Partners, the Board of Directors for the Great Valley Technology Alliance, and the Board of Directors for the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO). Mr. Peters, who resides in Clarks Summit, PA with his wife Leslie, daughter Isabella, and son Domenic, received his B.A. from Lehigh University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and played varsity baseball, and his M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
