William C. Reed

William Reed

William C. Reed is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA). Mr. Reed is responsible for health plan operations, coordinating and managing plan-wide strategic and tactical initiatives in a high-quality and cost-efficient manner. Mr. Reed joined BCNEPA after spending twenty-two years in the healthcare provider arena.

Prior to joining BCNEPA, Mr. Reed held numerous management positions in healthcare provider organizations including Senior Vice President, ChronicareÒ and Distribution Services for Gentiva Health Services, a national provider of alternate site healthcare services; and Senior Vice President, Operations, and Chief Information Officer of both Quantum Health Resources, a national provider of home infusion services, and Geisinger Health System, a multi-entity health care provider with more than 50 locations throughout Pennsylvania.

An author and frequent presenter on numerous healthcare issues, Mr. Reed is a member of many professional associations. He is a former president of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), former chairman of the Healthcare Information Systems Executive Association (HISEA), former board director of the Center for Healthcare Information Management (CHIM) and Microsoft Healthcare Users Group, and former chairman of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).

In 1995, Mr. Reed was honored by HIMSS and CHIME as healthcare CIO of the year when he was awarded the John E. Gall, Jr., CIO Award.

Active in the community, Mr. Reed serves as a board member for Leadership Wilkes-Barre, The Great Valley Technology Alliance and The Diamond City Partnership; vice-chair of the boards for Maternal and Family Health Services, and The Healthy Northeast Pennsylvania Initiative; a member of the President's Advisory Council for Keystone College and Finance Committee of United Way of Wyoming Valley; and chairman of the 2003 Osterhout Society Campaign.

Mr. Reed received his Bachelor of Science in business administration from Drexel University and his Master of Science in computer science from Rutgers University. He is married with six children.
